What is CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a hands-on therapy, using non-invasive, gentle touch.  Its a powerful therapy that uses the central nervous system to promote healing of the entire body.

Craniosacral therapy is not energy work.  It is a medicinal approach to wellbeing, and in many cases permanent healing results, by simply evaluating and suggesting a better movement of cerebrospinal fluid flow, by using the client's own central nervous system.  No invasive medicines, needles, or surgeries, just the naturally occurring movement of the craniosacral system.

The improvement seen with craniosacral therapy is more permanent than temporary; and the client will generally continue to self-correct for several days after a treatment.  It is a wonderful approach to promote healing in many conditions that may be causing dis-ease.  It is not just limited to humans, animals can benefit as well, since their central nervous systems are similar.

The CranioSacral system

The craniosacral system is just one of the many systems that keep the body running smoothly.  This system acts in similar fashion to a hydrostatic pressure model by "pumping" cerebrospinal fluid throughout the cranium and spine.  Its purpose is to bathe and nourish cranial and spinal nerves.  It also cushions the spinal cord, carries nutrients, and eliminates waste.   We are constantly producing cerebrospinal fluid (approx. 500ml in a 24 hour period).  There is about 125ml in the craniosacral system at any given time throughout the day.  The craniosacral system moves cerebrospinal fluid in rhythmic cycles at approximately 6-12 cycles per minute.  This rhythm in not contingent on other body rhythms like heart rate or breathing.  The other major purpose of this system is to ensure the brain communicates its messages clearly to the rest of the body.  If messages become unclear due to a restriction in the craniosacral system, the body or body parts will develop a dysfunctional pattern.  Craniosacral therapy enhances the functioning of the nervous system, and promotes proper communication between the brain and body- to eliminate pain, restriction, and other related medical conditions.
